Districts develop and enhance decision-making capacity for a variety of important reasons.

Making sound, defensible decisions aligned with organizational priorities — over 100 school and district leaders in a Colorado district have developed their critical thinking capabilities as a means to ensuring sound decisions are made which address district priorities. In addition, the district has developed a cadre of "super users." These leaders are now the "go to" people when the superintendent needs an experienced facilitator to work with the Board and/or difficult stakeholder groups on tough issues such as eliminating programs and staff reductions.

Implementing Common Core — TregoED is helping one North Carolina district plan and prepare for Implementing the Common Core standards. Leaders identify measurable implementation goals and assess barriers to CCS implementation. They also understand and have prepared for the multiple changes required at all district levels. They have learned multiple tools and strategies to not only use with implementing this major change, but others as well.

Collaborative problem-solving in a Special Education environment— The Director of the Exceptional Children’s (EC) program brought TregoED in to help build the capacity of one district’s Exceptional Children department’s staff to address the complex issues, changes and conflict which characterize special education environments. TregoED workshops, consulting, and structured support has helped EC staff handle high stakes IEP meetings, manage conflict, and use a collaborative approach for enhancing problem solving and communication.

Developing future leaders—a FL district had a large number of new school leaders with limited experience. They offered TregoED training to provide leaders with a consistent skill set. Their commitment to the training increased as they discovered it was equally valuable for instructional and non-instructional people—and it helped create a culture of increased respect and collaboration.

Developing rationale for budget decisions—a CA county intermediate unit hosted a workshop for teams from several districts. Facing record budget cuts, leaders needed to develop a rationale that could be consistently applied to budget decisions. Working with boards and communities, teams identified and prioritized criteria and then evaluated possible budget actions. Finally, implementation and communications plans were developed and launched.
